At a morning assembly and an evening Wellness Fair, Brian Cassidy introduced the Mathletics program to Chehalem Elementary School in December of 2010. Mathletics is being developed as a way to bring fitness, nutrition AND academics together into every school. Our goal at ADAPT is to help teach kids (and adults) to PLAY WITH PURPOSE in an effort to combat the growing epidemic of childhood obesity. The children at Chehalem were given goodie bags filled with jump ropes, dice, nutritional information (provided in both English and Spanish), a "Mathlete" dog tag and the Mathletics work sheets. Over the 2 weeks of Winter Break they are working on filling their Mathletics work sheet with a tally of exercises completed. These exercises are determined by the roll of a die. Upon their return to school, these work sheets will become part of their math classes.
