Healing through muscular re-education
Welcome to ADAPT Therapy, an innovative physical therapy clinic. ADAPT Therapy combines the knowledge base of a clinical physical therapist with a training environment focused on re-establishing muscular efficiency to alleviate symptoms and restore function. Our team of physical therapists and massage therapists achieve results unlike anyone else. At ADAPT, we treat the functional causes of numerous acute/chronic conditions and provide rehabilitation for post-surgical injuries. We will address the functional cause of your condition rather than just focus on symptom management.
The ADAPT method is designed to re-establish proper muscular function around the affected joint as well as the entire skeletal structure. Muscles have two independent functions: to move or stabilize a joint. When a part of the body is injured or is being held in a compromised position, the corresponding muscles may spasm to protect or secure the injury. This protective state does not allow for normal muscle function. ADAPT's first priority is to disengage this protective response and allow the joint to return to a more neutral position, creating the optimal healing environment.
Our second priority is to re-educate the muscular system to establish the necessary components for efficient joint function. The level of vulnerability and acuteness of your condition determines the pace and progression of your therapy. It is important that our focus encompasses more than just the muscles surrounding the affected joint. The entire muscular structure must be addressed to ensure proper joint function. We believe that the only means to achieve an ideal, pain-free lifestyle is to create the mechanically sound machine the body was intended to be.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY SESSION
Your session starts with a detailed intake process. Your current and past injury history will give your therapist an idea of how your body will respond to our unique therapy style. The key to the ADAPT training system is understanding how each client will react to the exercises. An ADAPT therapist's understanding of your body's instinctive neuromuscular response to injury is key to reestablishing your body's proper functioning.
The next step in your evaluation is an in-depth assessment of your present structural alignment and integrity. Your therapist will look at how your body is currently holding its own weight (postural analysis) and the patterns of how you walk (gait analysis). You will then go through a series of range of motion and structural tests that are comprised of a series of full body movements to establish a base level of muscular function and structural integrity.
Once the comprehensive evaluation process is completed, your therapist will design a muscular reeducation exercise program based on the combined results of posture, gait, and movement tests. You will then be taken through a customized exercise program that begins to disengage any protective muscular patterns. This exercise program is taken home and continued on a daily basis until your next therapy session. The key to getting results is your level of commitment to your home program and attending your therapy sessions. The therapist, your individual condition, and your physical goals will determine the number of sessions required and their frequency.
