Five Fundamentals of Movement

The Five Fundamentals of Movement are the foundation of the ADAPT Advanced program. The Five Fundamentals – Range of Motion, Structural Capacity, Neuro Function, Muscular Function and Instinct – form the basis of every workout session.

1: RANGE OF MOTION

Minimum joint capability to move through its intended articulation

2: STRUCTURAL CAPACITY

The skeletal system’s ability to accept load-bearing demand

3: NEURO FUNCTION

Communication of the neurologic signal

4: MUSCULAR FUNCTION

Efficiency of the muscle

5: INSTINCT

Intrinsic motivation to move

10 Stages of Adaptation

The 10 Stages of Adaptation provide a detailed roadmap outlining all the necessary benchmarks that a client must reach on the path to unassisted movement. Evaluating each client using the Five Fundamentals of Movement, we are able to assess an individual’s abilities, strengths and weaknesses. The 10 Stages of Adaptation create a fluid framework for a client to work within. Although they may be classified as a specific stage, they are not defined or limited by that stage. Specialist will work to address elements of all the stages, incorporating principles of each of the Five Fundamentals into every workout. By addressing aspects of more advanced stages, the client is given a clear picture of where they are and where they are going.
